Going to california for a couple days, whats there to do?

I’m mainly going to California with my family for Disneyland. probably spending a day at Disneyland and then a couple hours at some Vietnamese shopping center called phoc loc tho (im not sure if im spelling it right). what shopping malls or stores can i go to around there? also what other fun things can i do to keep me busy? thanks in advance!

There are literally hundreds of things to do here in LA. Here is my list of “must sees”. Visit as many as you have time for.:

Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors can’t be wrong. #1 Destination.
Universal Studios: A theme park that grew out of a studio tour. #2 Destination.
Even if you don’t visit Disneyland or Universal Studios Tour, Downtown Disney District and Universal City Walk are very fun places to visit for shopping and eating. And they’re free to visit. If you’re adventurous, try the indoor skydiving (www.iflyhollywood.com). It’s a blast!

Hollywood: Enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Chinese Theatre and more. The Hollywood & Highland complex has lots of shops and restaurants, and the Kodak Theater. The El Capitan theater, right across the street, is where Disney shows their movies. And the Hollywood Bowl is a GREAT place to listen to concerts outdoors.

Other theme parks include Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain, which are both more geared towards the fast-ride teen crowd.

Olvera Street/Union Station: Olvera Street is the birthplace of LA, and it emphasizes our Mexican heritage. In addition to the Avila Adobe (oldest building in LA), you can eat at some pretty good Mexican Restaurants, do a little shopping, and taste a churro. If you don’t want to go to Tijuana, this is as close as it gets without going there

Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed with exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all came to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.

Venice Beach: Here you’ll find Muscle Beach, street performers and tacky shops galore. Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after dark, when it gets a little TOO interesting for my taste.

Santa Monica: Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies. After visiting the pier, you can ride a bike south a couple miles to Venice Beach.

Sunset Boulevard began as a route between the stars’ posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the ocean, passing through the “Sunset Strip” on its way.

Farmers Market and The Grove – A new shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles landmark, It is right next to CBS, so walk across the lot to see if they are taping “The Price is Right”.

Griffith Park – Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.

Getty Museum – The Getty’s architecture is so beautiful that it keeps me fascinated. No matter whether you like their art, architecture, or view better, the Getty is sure to please. Free.

Attend a TV taping – You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, tvtix.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It’s very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the Tonight show.

Places to eat:
In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.
Pink’s Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. You might even see a celebrity. Maybe.
Tommy’s Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. The original location is at Beverly & Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.
Canter’s Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly & Melrose. Near CBS, you might spot a celebrity.
Phillippe’s: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station and Olvera Street.
Tito’s Taco’s: Voted best tacos in LA, even though it’s in Culver City. King Taco is a good alternate if you can deal with East LA.
The Pantry: Corner of Figueroa and 9th, downtown. Huge portions, they never close, GREAT steak and eggs.
Medieval Times and/or Pirate’s Dinner Adventure: Dinner and an adventure show, both are on Beach Blvd in Buena Park, you get to eat with your hands.

Places to Stay:
Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. In Hollywood, I recommend the Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity Hotel, or Hollywood Heights (formerly Holiday Inn Walk of Fame), all near Hollywood and Highland. In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced. In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. There is also a nice place in Burbank called the Best Western Media Center, very close to Warner, NBC, and Universal Studios.

Places to Shop:
Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica
The Grove, Los Angeles
Americana @ Brand, Glendale
Beverly Center, Los Angeles
Citadel Outlets, Commerce
Brea Mall, Brea
The Block at Orange, Orange
South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa
Fashion Island, Newport Beach
Santee Alley, Los Angeles

Is it safe to rent vacation timeshares from an individual? What are the pro’s and cons of renting vacay space?

I want to take my ffamily to Orange Lake County Club and Golf Resort in Florida. The actual company wants more than 1200 for the entire stay, but I have found where people that are owners are willing to rent their time out for sometimes half the amount the Brand company wants. I want to know if this is safe and if anyone has ever done it before….by that I mean if anyone has ever rented a timeshare/villa/living quarters from an individual. What are the pro’s and con’s? How can I be sure I don’t get scammed? I know each case is different but I would like to hear others stories about it. Thanks

The pros are that you will save a lot of money and get a full equipped condo that accommodates a larger amount of people.
The cons are that you have to be careful when you rent it, but it is just like renting any other property; use your credit card (the one that has fraud protection) and the owner has to give you a reservation confirmation from the resort, then you call the resort just to make sure it is a real one, and there you have it.

what is the closest airports to Pigeon Forge? Besides Knoxville, how else can I get there from Florida?

Consider also Asheville, North Carolina’s airport, http://www.flyavl.com You’ll drive through some gorgeous scenery enroute to Pigeon Forge. Plus, Asheville itself is fairly interesting, and the Biltmore Estate is nearby. AVL airport is served by Continental, Delta, Northwest, and USAir.

Depending where you’re coming from in Florida, Allegiant Air might be a good (and cheaper) alternative. They fly from St. Petersburg Airport and Orlando Sanford Airport to Knoxville and Chattanooga. http://www.allegiantair.com

Florida Tags Renewal?

I was trying to renew my tags today in person. I live in Florida, have florida License plates but since its a corporate lease car, the insurance is from Michigan. Waited for 45 mins to have them tell me that i couldnt have just mi insurance and that i had to have fl insurance but i’ve had a new corp lease car since i was 18, lived in 3 diff states and always had teh same thing..ontop of the fact that i have renewed my tags in fl for 4 years now…she said something about a fl ID card or something..anyone have this happened? kinda pissed and confused.

I had nc insurance on my car, but it was through a national insurance co. It took them longer than the 10 days to get my insurance switched over to FL, but the insurance co here made me a card they would accept for me to get my registration. ( this was when I was first getting my car registered in fl)

Like the above answerer said, see if your ins co can make you a card they will accept in FL.

Good Luck

These vinyl wall decals are great for any kid because they are tough and tear free.

They aren’t permanent and they don’t require tape or punching holes in your walls with thumbtacks like posters or pennants do, and these removable wall decals are stain resistant and don’t leave any residue behind so you can use them for decorating for a party, or temporary housing such as a relative’s house. Bcs National Championship Game – Florida Vs Oklahoma

Between them, they have won 9 National Championships. Coaches for both teams are considered the best in college football. Bob Stoops coached OU to a 12-0 record in 2000 which culminated with a 13-2 win over Florida State in the Orange Bowl.
It was only Stoop’ second year with Sooners and he had already guided them to a National Championship. Urban Meyer spurned Notre Dame to become head coach at Florida in 2005. Just like Stoops, his second year ended with the Gators securing the National Championship. An added amount of intrigue about this BCS title game is the fact that Stoops was the defensive coordinator for Florida before leaving for Oklahoma.

Oklahoma got into the title game by beating Missouri 62-21 in the Big 12 conference title game. No one debated who was the better team in that game, but some people wondered whether Texas should have been playing instead of OU because of a late season jump in the BCS rankings. Nevertheless, no one questions Oklahoma’s talent.
The Sooners set a modern-day NCAA record, scoring 702 points this season. Quarterback Sam Bradford led this prolific offense throwing for 48 touchdowns, the most in college football this season. And for that, he won the Heisman Trophy(college football’s award for the best player). The Sooners won 11 games and lost one. That one loss is the reason for the controversy as it was to Texas, the team they jumped in the rankings.

Florida got into this game by beating Alabama 31-20 in the SEC Championship game behind their Quarterback Tim Tebow’s heroics. Tebow, who won last year’s Heisman award, threw for three touchdowns in the game against previously unbeaten Alabama.
Although Oklahoma owns the most prolific scoring offense in the country, Florida isn’t far behind in the rankings at 3rd. Along with their high-ranked offense, they own the 5th-ranked defense in the country. The challenge for Florida will be for their strong defense to limit the explosive Oklahoma offense.

The BCS National Championship is the defacto championship game for the college football championship in the US. And although the winner of this game is considered by most to be the best that year, the title is not sanctioned by college sports governing body, the NCAA. But the BCS is not without controversy.
Every year since its inception, it has attempted to identify the best college teams and proclaim a winner. However, the process of choosing the teams to play in the title game has its detractors. At the end of the regular season, the top two teams in the BCS rankings are pitted against each other. But the criteria used to rank the teams is heavily criticized.
As a result, even when the #1 and #2 teams meet, some people will question whether or not they were the right teams. More and more people(including US President-elect Obama) have called for scrapping the BCS system and installing a playoff system.

Handsfree Bluetooth Cell Phone Tips

I’ll never wear that @$#x! thing on my ear…..

How many times do you think I have heard that from customers who walk up to me?

Question #1: I am going to ask the question this time. Why is it that it always seems the people who are the most adamant about, “I aint gonna wear that $@#x! thing in my ear”, referring to a hands free bluetooth headset, are the very same STUPID moron drivers who won’t get off their phones on the road?? I have read some good postings on the web about completely idiotic behavior due to distracted driving that perhaps could have been avoided or at least curtailed by responsible cell phone use. Wake up people. Use your head(set).

I have been around the wireless phone business for a long time and I have never seen such absolute ignorance when it comes to a viable solution for hands free phone use: e.g, the bluetooth headset. I hate to say it, but it is a segment of the population that I happen to belong to that is most guilty of the crime also. People over 45. Put your pride aside and get with the program. Someone came up with a brilliant idea (and I don’t mean that sarcastically) for use with a cell phone and you refuse to use it.

I can hear the excuses now. “I can’t wear that thing, it hurts my ear”. “That thing looks stupid on my ear”. I answer, what is the alternative? Maiming or permanently disabling someone who is driving responsibly and you having to live with the consequences of stupid behavior. That’s a no-brainer……Forgive me, I rant

Tip #1 (then is….): Wear the thing.

Tip #2: Don’t get frustrated with the goofy thing even if you do think you look like some character from Star Trek. There are literally thousands of hands free bluetooth options on the market today. Find what works for you: an in-ear headset design for your cell phone use, or the over-the-ear design, complete with a boom, if you like. If you care to listen to music with a stereo bluetooth headset, there a large variety to pick from out there on the market now. I have actually found dealers who incorporate phone bluetooth technology into hearing aids. That was an idea that was a long time coming. Finally. Let technology work for you.

Tip #3: When pairing the bluetooth headset with your bluetooth compatible phone, use the bluetooth passkey. (Shhh, it’s a secret bluetooth passkey: Four zero’s, 0000). Don’t tell anyone now. You’ll be amazed to find out how many times I have helped people find that secret code in pairing their bluetooth headset. Don’t feel bad, you’re not the only one.

Tip #4: Make sure that your cell phone is handsfree bluetooth compatible. Not yet a given. Usually, if you search under your menu on your phone and look under “connectivity” for a bluetooth option then it is, but not all of the older cell phones had bluetooth technology built in yet.

Tip #5: This is the least known of all aspects of bluetooth handsfree headset technology. Make sure that you are wearing your hands free bluetooth on the same side of your body as your bluetooth compatible cell phone. Some cell phone headsets can not “see” through your body, so keep it line-of-sight.

Tip #6: Be wary of pairing a bluetooth compatible cell phone to a vehicles’ bluetooth voice-dialer. Not every phone is compatible with the profiles supported by the car manufacturer. Get with your automobile dealer to see specifically which wireless phone manufacturers are recommended by the car dealer. Just because a wireless phone is bluetooth compatible and the car is bluetooth compatible, doesn’t mean that the two devices will “see” each other. It’s much more complex than that. There are about 8-10 different profiles that bluetooth technology deals with, and hands free bluetooth pairing with a vehicles’ dialer is only one of them. Not all devices support all of the 8-10 profiles. Remember this rule of thumb however when you are purchasing equipment with bluetooth compatibility: you get what you pay for.

Look for my next blog…Maybe we’ll get a psychologist to tell us the reason why people do stupid things….like text messaging on their cell phone when they are driving….that’ll be a good one, eh?? TTFN. Tee, hee, hee. :-)

Creation of this blog……This blog was designed to be a Q & A for the Costco member who can’t seem to get around to ask the wireless phone guy or gal about the issue they are having and finding solutions. I hope you will find it helpful and please feel free to post your comments if you like. I used to joke around with my coworkers in Costco that someday we would run a class on Saturday mornings on the porch like you would see at the Home Depot on how to lay tile in your bathroom, or how to (….insert project here)

This is that class, and you don’t have to get up early on a Saturday and go to the Home Depot. We will delve into issues like cell phone radiation protection (the myth-the legend), electromagnetic protection, roaming and why did it take me a week to get that text, possibly a review or two, guest columnists and wireless industry return policies. If you are a Sam’s Club member and you go into a Sam’s Club or if you’re a Costco member and you shop for wireless phones at your local Costco Warehouse, make sure to ask about the return policy for their wireless phones and bluetooth products. Their return policies have changed recently, so don’t be blind-sided. I will also give some straight talk regarding why wireless companies don’t give you squat when you have been a loyal customer of theirs for 700 years. (Is that possible??). We will run the gamut as far as topics, and finding solutions. Wireless phones and the cell phone industry has become the industry we love to hate, but look where it has brought us.
